How Many Calories in a McFlurry?
Hailing from the frozen dessert menu at McDonalds, the McFlurry is perhaps the tastiest item offered at the chain that has served over 1 billion people.  After scarfing down a big mac, supersize fries and a diet coke (just to be safe), you will probably be tempted to walk back up to the counter and order one last item: a McFlurry.  You will have quite a few choices when it comes to the flavor of your dessert; take your pick from m&m’s, Reese’s, Butterfinger, and Oreo cookie.  Ah, of course you’ve chosen Oreo cookie.  Everyone knows it’s the best choice.  You take your McFlurry to go and you sit in your car enjoying the first few spoonfuls of vanilla ice cream thoroughly blended with crushed Oreo cookies.  You know you feel guilty for eating McDonalds in the first place but how much worse did you make it with the McFlurry?

As you can see by looking at the nutrition data to the left, just one small Oreo cookie McFlurry contains a whopping 567 calories.  Even worse 181 of those calories are coming straight from fat.  And of the 20 grams of fat, 12 grams are saturated fat.  This is 31% and 59% of the daily value of fat and saturated fat respectively.  This small McFlurry is also very high in cholesterol with 69mg giving you 23% of the daily value.

Don’t miss the 82 grams of carbohydrates.  That’s 27% of the daily value for carbs.  And with those carbs of course comes the sugar–In fact, 69 grams of sugar.

 

 

The Good Stuff about an Oreo McFlurry

  • In just a small McFlurry there are 15 grams of protein
  • A small oreo McFlurry will also provied you with 48%, almost half of your daily value of calcium.  Good for strong bones.

The Bad Stuff about an Oreo McFlurry

  • Contains little other vitamins and minerals.  In fact, only 4% daily value of vitamin C and only 6% daily value of iron.
  • Has 69 grams of sugar which is very unhealthy for your body.  You’ll likely have an energy ‘crash’ soon after eating a McFlurry.
  • High in fat at 20 grams with more than half of this fat being saturated fat
  • Extremely high in calories at 567 in just a small 12 oz. McFlurry.  That’s the size of a whole meal by itself in just the dessert

Can I still eat a McFlurry for dessert if I’m trying to lose weight?
The answer to this is plain and simple NO.  There are way too many calories in just a small McFlurry.  If you are trying to lose weight, I do not recommend you eat more than 600 calories per entire meal and the dessert is 567 calories–more in a large.  Many weight-loss plans advise you to eat low amounts of carbohydrates throughout the day and in just one dessert, your having 27% of the daily value. The excessive sugar content (69 grams) will spike your insulin levels and be stored as fat if not burned.  So unless you plan on running a marathon, you will gain fat from eating a McFlurry.
